King Charles, Queen Camilla release statement as they wrap historic visit
Buckingham Palace shares update as King Charles, Queen Camilla board flight back to UK
King Charles and Queen Camilla penned a personal statement as the royal couple wrapped their brief tour to Canada on Tuesday.
Buckingham Palace shared an update on the significant royal tour as Charles and Camilla boarded the plane to head back to the UK.
The King’s office shared special highlights from the visit which was accompanied by the heartfelt message.
“As my wife and I leave Canada, we wanted to send our most heartfelt thanks to all those who turned out to offer their support on this, my first visit as Sovereign,” the statement from the monarchs read.
“It was the warmest of welcomes - and the fondest of returns to a land and a people we love. Until the next time, au revoir, Canada, et avec tous nos remerciements [With all my thanks].”
It was signed off as “Charles R. & Camilla R.”
The King’s visit to Canada had been an important one – despite it being a 20th tour to the country – as it was the first one after Charles’s ascension to the throne.
Charles made a historic address to the Canadian Parliament as it was opened by a monarch for the first time in 68 years. The timing was also crucial as the monarch addressed the ongoing diplomatic tensions, especially concerning Canada following explosive remarks from US President Trump.
In his speech, the King declared, “As the anthem reminds us: The True North is indeed strong and free!”
