Buckingham Palace shares new portrait to announce latest family addition
Queen Camilla poses with an adorable new addition to the royal family after recently suffering a loss
Queen Camilla is welcoming a new four-legged friend into her royal household.
On Sunday, May 18, Buckingham Palace confirmed the 77-year-old royal and avid dog lover has adopted a rescue pup named Moley from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home — where Her Majesty has long served as Patron.
The sweet reveal came via a new photo showing the part-Jack Russell terrier settling into life with the Queen, just months after the heartbreaking loss of her beloved dog, Beth.
In a social media statement, the Palace shared, “Meet mischievous Moley, The Queen’s new much-loved canine companion.”
They added that Moley was adopted from Battersea, the same shelter where Camilla previously found her famous Jack Russells, Beth and Bluebell.
The pup’s debut comes ahead of Camilla’s visit to the Chelsea Flower Show, where she’ll tour a special dog-themed garden designed by BBC Radio 2 and the Royal Horticultural Society.
The space, built with dogs in mind, includes shady trees, open grass, and brick paths engraved with names of cherished canines — including Beth and King Charles’ dog, Snuff.
Last November, the Palace mourned Beth’s passing, calling her “The Queen’s much-loved companion” who brought joy “whether on walkies, helping on official duties, or curled up by the fire.”
Camilla once wrote that while her dogs “cannot claim to have saved any lives,” she remains proud of their resilience and the joy they bring.
