Prince Harry and Meghan Markle seemingly sprung into action as they received a bold response to their move.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex started their Archewell Foundation following their exit from senior working royal positions and settled in the US to start their independent lives.
The couple stressed that the foundation will be dedicated to promoting their charitable efforts and give support wherever needed.
Archewell announced earlier this week that they were dropping a Muslim charity after they made offensive statement but an ongoing conflict. However, the organisation’s latest move was not received. In fact, a befitting response from the charity head forced them into issuing a public statement to ‘save their reputation’.
On Thursday, Janan Najeeb, Founder and Executive Director of Muslim Women’s Coalition, issued a powerful statement in response to the Sussexes move.
She expressed her “deep disappointment regarding the Foundation’s decision to revoke funding in response to an independent opinion piece she authored.
Janan emphasised that there was “painful irony” in Archewell’s decision it was taken when “the leader of a women’s organization dared to speak out against the creation of more war survivors”.
“Who you fund is ultimately your decision, but we ask that you retract your defamatory statements and issue a public apology,” she wrote in the message, adding, “not to salvage our reputation, which remains pristine, but to salvage yours.”
She concluded the message, “With MWC’s proven track record—driven by Jewish, Muslim, and Christian staff—we are confident that more credible foundations and generous donors will continue to support this vital work.”
Following the Janan’s message, the next day Archewell Executive Directors, on behalf of Harry and Meghan, said the decision was “out of respect for all of our partners, a responsibility to our donors, and in reflecting the values of our Principals”.
They also had to reiterate their support and commitment to work with Muslim-led organizations and refugee support programs.
