Nicola Coughlan’s one family member not fond of intimate Bridgerton scenes
Nicola Coughlan reflects on playing a mature adult in season three of Bridgerton
Nicola Coughlan has recently opened up that her mother was not comfortable watching her intimate scene in Bridgerton.
“My mother was so mad at me about those scenes — as if they were my fault, so I didn’t go to the screening with her,” said the actress during an appearance on The Graham Norton Show.
Nicola, who plays Penelope Featherington in the hit Netflix show, talked about her mature character in the hit show’s third season.
“I realised I was 35 when I was filming the season, and I’d never played an adult. I was like, ‘How do I do this?’” she explained.
However, the actress mentioned, “[In] the first two [Bridgerton] series, I looked a lot like Spongebob Squarepants, very curly, ginger [hair], yellow dress, sort a of a tent situation going on.”
She explained, “It was weird having to play the romantic lead and then knowing it was all because — it’s a sexy show.”
“A lot of sexy things happen in it, and then I realised I was going to have to do the intimate things and I was like, ‘Right,’” pointed out Nicola.
For the unversed, the season three focused on the friends-to-lovers storyline between Nicola’s character and Luke Newton’s Colin Bridgerton.
Earlier in May, Nicola spoke to Stylist magazine and talked about famous mirror scene from the show.
She recalled, “There’s one scene where I’m very naked on camera, and that was my idea, my choice. It was amazingly empowering.”
“I felt beautiful in the moment, and I thought: ‘When I’m 80, I want to look back on this and remember how hot I looked!'” added Nicola.
