Candice Patton welcomes first baby with J.R. Smith
Candice Patton enters motherhood with controversy for welcoming a child with married J.R. Smith
Candice Patton has welcomed a baby boy, marking a new chapter in her life.
The Flash actress announced the arrival of her son with J.R. Smith, who is still legally married to Shirley "Jewel" Smith, years after their affair came to light.
On Friday, September 27, the 36-year-old actress shared the joyful news on Instagram, posting adorable photos of her baby's tiny feet nestled in heavily tattooed hands.
“Son in Virgo. Born at home. Heart now beats outside of my chest. In love forevermore [blooming hearts and footprints emoji],” she captioned the post, without naming the baby's father.
The following day, Patton posted new set of photos of her newborn in a joint Instagram post with J.R., 39.
Fans of the former NBA star expressed shock at the news, especially given his legally married status to Shirley.
"Wow! Had a baby with the woman he cheated on his wife with. Smh," one fan commented.
Another added, "Y’all remember when his wife called them out for having an affair??"
"Wow… Jewel was right. This is the same one from years ago, right? WOW!!! Ladies—stand on your integrity and self-worth. Never mess with a married man!" a third user stated.
These comments referred to the drama that took place nearly five years ago when Shirley, who has been married to J.R. since 2016, publicly addressed the affair on Instagram, sharing a video of herself praying for both her husband and his alleged mistress, Patton.
