Rebel Wilson shares her views while promoting The Deb at 2024 TIFF
Rebel Wilson has recently explained why she would only direct musicals while discussing about her directorial debut, The Deb.
Speaking to PEOPLE, the Pitch Perfect star said, “Basically, it could only have been a musical, I think, because the amount of work and passion and love you have to put in, I think for me it could only be a musical.”
“It’s a bit of a long story,” continued the 44-year-old.
However, Rebel pointed out, “Our dogs were the stars of my family and our dog had auditioned for a musical called 42nd Street, and the dog went to the call-backs and was supposed to run over to the actress on command.”
The Senior Year actress recalled her “family pet defecated onstage and we didn't get the job”.
Later, Rebel revealed that she saw “this musical” at the age of 14 “and ever since then, I've just loved musicals”.
“So, I thought in order to take me out of the acting game for a while and to direct, it had to be a musical,” mentioned The Hustle actress.
Rebel told the outlet, “And I thought it had to be Australian, because it's very authentic to me and my background. So hence, The Deb.”
The Pain & Gain actress added she’s “so proud” of how her movie turned out.
Meanwhile, The Deb was premiered at 2024 TIFF on September 14.
Moreover, other upcoming projects of Rebel is another musical, Verona’s Romeo & Juliet, which is going to release in 2025.
