Suga, member of the critically acclaimed K-pop group BTS, was under investigation for riding an electric scooter while intoxicated.
According to Allkpop, Yonhap News reported on Wednesday, August 7, that Seoul Yongsan Police Station is investigating Suga, 31, on charges of violating the Road Traffic Act (drunk driving).
Reportedly, Suga, born Min Yoon-gi, had alcohol when he rode his electric scooter in the Yongsan district. He was found "fallen on the streets by himself" on Tuesday night, August 6.
Police officers in the vicinity approached him to assist him but noticed the smell of alcohol and transferred him to a nearby police station.
Shortly after several outlets reported the incident, BIGHIT Music released an official statement apologising for “the disappointment caused by our artist’s inappropriate behaviour.”
"We apologise regarding BTS member Suga’s electric scooter accident," they began. "He fell while parking after moving about 500 meters, and the police officer who was nearby conducted a breathalyser test, resulting in a fine and the cancellation of his license."
"Nobody was hurt, and no property damage occurred due to the incident and he was taken home under police custody," they added.
Notably, the South Korean rapper is completing his compulsory military training as a social service agent.
"As a public service worker, he will receive appropriate disciplinary action from his workplace for causing public disturbance," the agency wrote, assuring, "We will take greater care to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future."
