Shawn Ryan, the creator behind the hit TV series The Night Agent, has inked a significant four-year overall deal with Netflix.
Deadline reported on Monday, June 10, that the new agreement said to be in the eight-figure range, might prompt Netflix to potentially expand The Night Agent into a broader franchise, including rumoured spinoffs since the series' successful debut in March 2023.
The thriller series, quickly rose in popularity, securing the sixth spot on Netflix's Top 10 Most Popular English-Language Series list.
Given Netflix's history of expanding popular series into franchises—like Bridgerton, Monster, Wednesday, Stranger Things, and The Witcher—the new partnership with Ryan opens doors for similar growth for The Night Agent.
In light of this new deal, Netflix has already initiated a writers' room for the third season of The Night Agent.
The series, produced by Sony TV, has been picked up through season two, with production slated to resume quickly after the writers' strikes.
Ryan's transition to Netflix, reportedly, comes after a competitive bidding situation, among major studios like Sony Pictures TV, NBCUniversal, and Warner Bros. TV, vying for his talents.
His pact with Netflix will commence once his current deal with Sony TV concludes at the end of October.
