Kevin Spacey receives support from Hollywood A-listers amid sexual allegations
Kevin Spacey, last summer, was acquitted of nine charges in London
Sharon Stone, F. Murray Abraham, Stephen Fry, and Liam Neeson all participated in endorsing Kevin Spacey's comeback to Hollywood this week.
The recently released Spacey Unmasked documentary featured fresh accusations against Spacey, which coincided with their remarks.
Neeson told The Telegraph, "Kevin is a good man and a man of character," and he expressed his "deep sadness" at hearing the latest charges made against the House of Cards star.
Since 2017, Kevin Spacey has faced multiple accusations of sexual assault. Although he was found not guilty in a New York trial and cleared of accusations in London, a recent documentary called Spacey Unmasked directed by Katherine Haywood featured ten new allegations of abuse.
“I will not sit back and be attacked by a dying network’s one-sided ‘documentary’ about me in their desperate attempt for ratings,” Spacey wrote on X, formerly Twitter, criticising the producers for denying him the opportunity to comment on the project.
Neeson continued this week by saying that Spacey is “one of our finest artists in the theatre and on camera. Personally speaking, our industry needs him and misses him greatly.”
Stone added, “I can’t wait to see Kevin back at work. He is a genius. He is so elegant and fun, generous to a fault and known more about our craft than most of us ever will.”
She added that it was clear young actors had “wanted and want to be around him”, saying, “It’s terrible that they are blaming him for not being able to come to terms with themselves for using him and negotiating with themselves because they didn’t get their secret agendas.”
Abraham said he would “vouch for [Spacey] unequivocally,” adding, “Who are these vultures who attack a man who has publicly accepted his responsibility for certain behaviour, unlike so many others?… He is a fine man, I stand with him, and let he who is without sin cast the first stone.”
Fry criticised the documentary, saying, “To continue to harass and hound [Spacey], to devote a whole documentary to accusations that simply do not add up to crimes… how can that be considered proportionate and justified?”
