Donald Trump has recently spilled he preferred his daughter Ivanka Trump to replace him as host of The Apprentice in the new book.
Author Ramin Setoodeh reflected on Donald’s years on the small screen prior to his decision to run for America’s president in the new tome, Apprentice in Wonderland.
“I said, ‘The best person to hire would be Ivanka Trump,’” said Donald in an excerpt shared via Variety.
Donald told the author, “I didn’t press it. But I felt Ivanka would have been by far the best person you could hire.”
Not only that, the 77-year-old wanted his sons Eric and Don Trump Jr. to take over as boardroom advisers on the reality competition series.
“It was going to be the three of us,” stated Eric in the book, adding, “There were talks for a little while about it.”
However, the network had different plans, saying, “NBC didn’t like it, because it became like a family thing.”
“But I said, ‘There’s nobody you’re going to hire that will come even close to Ivanka.’ They said, ‘Huh…’ And then they came back with Arnold Schwarzenegger,” revealed Donald.
The New Celebrity Apprentice, hosted by Arnold was premiered in 2017 but it only ran for one season.
The Terminator star left the show, explaining, “It had too much baggage by being associated with Donald's presidency.”
Earlier in an interview with Empire magazine, Arnold mentioned, “With Trump being involved in the show people have a bad taste and don’t want to participate as a spectator or as a sponsor or in any other way support the show.”
“It’s a very divisive period now and I think this show got caught up in all that division,” remarked the actor.
Meanwhile, Apprentice in Wonderland will hit the bookshelves on June 18.
