LAHORE: With T20 World Cup 2024 just around the corner, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) decided to dissolved the current national selection committee, said the cricket body's spokesperson on Sunday.
According to the spokesperson, a new selection committee will be announced soon. He added that the committee will be able to make merit-based independent decisions for the team's selection.
The now dissolved selection committee was being led by former Pakistani pacer Wahab Riaz while other members included Tauseef Ahmed, Wajahatullah Wasti, Wasim Haider.
Kamran Akmal and Rao Iftikhar were the consultant members and Hasan Muzaffar Cheema was the manager analyst in the committee.
According to the sources, PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi will hold a press conference today during which he will likely announce the new selection committee.
The sources revealed that Wahab is likely to retain the chief selector's position while all-rounder Abdul Razzaq is a strong candidate to become a member of the committee.
Earlier this week on Monday, sources told Geo News that the PCB has decided to further empower the selection committee as Naqvi is of the view that it should have full authority.
As per the sources, the selection committee will be given the responsibility of hiring a new coach and choosing the captain of the national team. It was further revealed that the empowered departments will be held accountable for their actions.
