Solar Eclipse 2024: North America set to witness greatest once in lifetime celestial event
Total solar eclipse will be seen on April 8 for duration of 4 minutes and 9 seconds
People in North America will get to witness a once in a lifetime opportunity of seeing a total solar eclipse on April 8, BBC reported.
Residents will get to see the sky go pitch black for 4 minutes and 9 seconds after the moon will block out the sun for the second time in seven years.
The 2024 eclipse will be seen in major United States cities such as, Dallas, Indianapolis, Cleveland, and Buffalo.
According to the United States space agency's eclipse programme manager, Dr Kelly Korreck: "This is going to be the most populated eclipse in the US, with 31.5 million people able to just walk outside of their homes to experience it."
Nasa will be conducting experiments, such as launching rockets into the shadow to see how it affects the earth atmosphere.
Furthermore, instrumented jet planes will also chase the shadow.
Nasa in their statement said: "The reason that we're flying aeroplanes, besides the fact that it's really cool, is because getting up high into the atmosphere means you can actually access wavelengths of light you can't do from the ground."
Thousands of spectators are estimated to flock to the Midwestern cities to witness this spectacular event.
