Gary Goldsmith's presence on show was ‘never up' for Royal Family debate
Princess Kate’s uncle is a contestant on this year’s Celebrity Big Brother
Kate Middleton's uncle, Gary Goldsmith, appeared on Big Brother without being briefed by the Royal Family, as revealed by a former royal butler.
During his initial week on CBB, Goldsmith openly discussed his niece and other Royal Family members.
Former royal butler, Grant Harrold, spoke out about the logistics of a royal's relative appearing on reality TV.
He explained that Goldsmith was not likely to have been briefed about Kate before appearing on the show.
Harrold said: “It’s unlikely, if he was closer to Kate maybe, but I’m sure he would be having none if it.”
Before going on the show, Carole Middleton’s brother was asked if he had Kate’s permission to be on the show.
He replied: "No, I don't need to do that. Me being on the show has not been a topic for debate.
"I love my family, they can trust me that it's all going to be okay.
"My heart's in the right place with the family. I genuinely love them and respect what they do.”
The 58-year-old-businessman also said that he had spoken to his sister, Carole Middleton about Kate and his upcoming appearance on CBB.
He said: “I’ve spoken to Carole just to send my love and we talked about Kate given what’s going on.
“There’s lots going on in the family at the moment. So she’s spinning a lot of plates right now, it’s quite stressful. So the last thing I’m going to do is bring any stress to them.”
During an interview with Slingo, Harrold was also asked if he thought Kate would be watching the show.
He responded: “The royals watch all sorts of television so it wouldn't surprise me if they flicked onto the channel by accident.
“Wouldn't you tune in if it was a member of your family? I would like to know what's being said.
“The men and women in suits, as we call them, will definitely be watching because they’ll fear his stint could damage the Royal Family.”
