Aaron Carter’s friends did the musician one last service as they put together his posthumous single, Grateful.
The late musician’s pals, Bryan Cassidy and Morgan Matthews, teamed up to finish the single which he had been working on before his untimely death.
Cassidy had co-written the song with the late singer and Matthews was his former manager and producer.
Carter died at 34 after he drowned in his bathtub at Lancaster home in November 2022 after a mix of drugs left him incapacitated.
“This [song] reminds me of the Aaron that I know,” told Cassidy to People Magazine. “He just sounds so good on it. This is a positive way to remember Aaron.”
Matthews added, “He’d be so proud.”
Cassidy and Matthews say the track is meant to remember Carter in a positive light and not the one who was struggling with substance abuse and mental health.
“It was hard for me to hear the song and record it. I couldn’t record it. I would lose it, I would start crying every time,” Cassidy continued.
“I still kind of am [recovering]. Sometimes I’ll go in my messages and read what he sent me. And you go through that and you realise a good one died young. It just sucks.”
In the song, Carter sings, “Sunshine through my window, but it’s been a minute since I felt like this/Been a long week but I’m good though, every single breath is is feeling like a gift.”
Grateful also features additional vocals Cassidy after Carter’s death.
