'Sania Mirza, Shoaib Malik divorced months back': Anam Mirza
Sania's sister requests fans, well-wishers to respect her privacy at this sensitive period of her life
Sania Mirza's sister, Anam Mirza, Sunday finally opened up on the former tennis star's divorce from Shoaib Malik, saying that the couple had parted ways a few months ago.
Taking to Instagram, Anam stressed: "Sania has always kept her personal life from the public eye."
"However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now," the statement added, referring to Shoaib's announcement of his marriage, held in Karachi a few days ago, with Pakistani actress Sana Javed on Saturday.
Earlier, sources told Geo News that Sania had taken divorce following their separation in late 2022 after Sania lost her patience with her spouse over his interactions with other women.
Saying that Sania "wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead," Anam requested all fans and well-wishers against indulging in speculations and respect her sister's need for privacy at this sensitive period of her life.
Following Shoaib's third marriage with the Pakistani actress, his brother-in-law, Imran Zafar revealed that the cricketer's wedding was not attended by anyone from his family.
Sources say that Shoaib's family is unhappy with him for severing his ties with Sania.
"Shoaib's family was very sad after the divorce and had also asked the cricketer to work on his relationship," the sources added.
