Cristiano Ronaldo seems to have given some indication as to when he will hang up his boots, as per manager Roberto Martinez's recent statement during an interview.
The five-time Ballon d'Or winner made his Portugal debut two decades ago and is still a vital member of the team, but at 38 years old, many supporters and commentators are beginning to wonder if Ronaldo's days as an international player are coming to an end.
Martinez's remarks in an interview with Arsenal veteran Freddie Ljungberg, wherein the coach appears to imply that Ronaldo might decide to retire from Portugal after 250 games, would undoubtedly intrigue those with such questions.
"He was very close to 200 caps, something no other player had achieved before. Of course the conversation we had is private, but I can reveal one of the things he told me. [I asked him] If reaching 200 caps would interest you and he told me: '250 interests me'", Martinez confessed.
Earlier this year, Ronaldo became the first male player to earn 200 caps for his nation, as the Portugal manager clarified. That obviously hasn't satisfied the former Real Madrid superstar, though, and it appears that his goal is to play for his nation in the 2026 World Cup.
At the moment, Ronaldo has 205 caps for Portugal. The former Manchester United star would probably need to play in the USA, Canada, and Mexico at the 2026 World Cup, which will take place in 2020.
