'Indiana Jones' star Mads Mikkelsen discusses his love for portraying 'losers'
Mikkelsen believes that these types of characters are relatable because people might have found themselves in similar situations
Hannibal star Mads Mikkelsen discussed his preference for playing offbeat and sinister characters, acknowledging his reputation for portraying sleazy figures.
In a recent interview with GQ, referring to his role as the villainous Dr. Voller in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Mikkelsen explained that he finds playing losers and villains more interesting than portraying charming or cute characters.
“To combine it — to do something real and also be a cutie pie — I don’t really find it interesting,” Mikkelsen said.
“I’m not into the ‘hair falling in your eyes, be cute in a corner.’ Not me. The losers are fun. Because we know them. You might have been in that situation yourself sometimes.”
He believes that these types of characters are relatable because people might have found themselves in similar situations at times.
Mikkelsen also mentioned that his involvement in blockbuster franchises like "Indiana Jones" and "Fantastic Beasts" gives him the creative freedom to explore more adventurous projects internationally.
While he expressed a desire to branch out and play non-villainous roles in the future, he is grateful for the opportunities he has had in iconic franchises and is content with his current path.
"I’m happy with what I’m doing. I’m happy I’ve been invited into some great franchises, like the Bond, Marvel, and Indiana Jones. It’s a luxury, so if that’s what’s coming my way, I’ll take it any day. If they do want me to do something else, I’ll give it a shot!”
