Chadwick Boseman’s loved ones offer moving tribute at Walk of Fame ceremony

Chadwick Boseman received a posthumous star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, five years after his death.

On Thursday, November 20, the late actor, who is best known for his iconic role as Marvel's Black Panther, was honoured with the 2,828th star located near the Dolby Theatre.

While Boseman, who died at the age of 43 after battling with colon cancer, wasn’t there to witness the moment himself, his wife Simone Ledward-Boseman accepted the honour on his behalf and made sure he was part of the moment.

She placed a pair of Boseman’s personal shoes on the star as a powerful symbol of his presence during the unveiling ceremony.

The widow reflected on the significance behind her emotional gesture, stating that since her husband could not physically stand on his star, she wanted a physical item that had "touched him that can also touch the star and maybe imbue some of that energy and and some of that spark."

A framed portrait of the late actor was also placed alongside the star.

In addition to Boseman’s brothers, Derrick and Kevin, the ceremony was attended by a slew of celebrities, including Michael B. Jordan, Viola Davis, Ryan Coogler, Lupita Nyong’o, and Letitia Wright.

"We love you, we miss you," said his wife, as she paid tribute to the actor's legacy.

Director Ryan Coogler, who led Black Panther in 2018 and Wakanda Forever in 2022, also offered heartfelt words to honour Boseman. "We continue to carry him with us," he said.

"He deserved [a star] on the Walk of Fame. He was also our most incredible jewel. He reflected light, he refracted it, and when he did, he showed the greatness of our people, and the universe of our shared humanity. Thank you, Chad," Coogler added.
