Zoe Saldaña is sharing a rare look into the promise that has shaped her relationship with husband Marco Perego.
In a new interview with Vogue México, the Emilia Pérez star talked about the balance she strives for in every part of her life, from her home to her career, and how that same intention carries into her marriage.
She explained that she and Perego made a commitment early on, one that still guides them today.
“With Marco, there’s a very deep connection. We made a promise: that whatever we did together, in art or in life, would have meaning, or we wouldn’t do it at all," she said.
Saldaña, who shares three sons with Perego, 10-year-old twins Cy and Bowie and 8-year-old Zen, also opened up about allowing herself to be vulnerable in front of her children.
She admitted that when they see her upset and ask why, she sometimes doesn’t know how to respond, realizing how long she has tried to appear strong. But she added, “there’s nothing more powerful than showing vulnerability.”
The couple, who met on a flight to New York, married quietly in 2013 after a whirlwind romance.
Over the years, Saldaña has spoken about how being with Perego helped her let her guard down.
In a 2015 interview, she said that after they welcomed their boys, she looked at him and felt, “I was meant for you, and you were meant for me.”
Their partnership, she has made clear, is built on mutual respect.
Reflecting on their dynamic in 2018, Saldaña explained that neither directs the other but both are supportive and open.
She said there’s a steady “give-and-take,” emphasizing that even though they follow their own instincts, they always take each other’s thoughts into consideration.
For Saldaña, that blend of connection, purpose and vulnerability isn’t just the foundation of their marriage, it’s a guiding principle for their family and their lives together.
