Asks govt to call APC

NOWSHERA: Awami National Party Secretary General Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Saturday asked the federal government to convene an All Parties Conference (APC) to review the progress on the National Action Plan (NAP).

Speaking at a press conference here, he said that the time has come to review the progress on the NAP and discuss means to make the plan more effective. “Peace cannot be restored until and unless the NAP is implemented in letter and spirit,” he added. He expressed concern over the security arrangements at the Bacha Khan University (BKU) in the aftermath of the militants attack on the institution. He said the Bacha Khan University (BKU) was going to reopen from tomorrow but the ANP has serious reservations about the security of the university.

He said though the university administration had made extra security arrangements, it was not enough. He also expressed disappointment on what he called not giving due importance to the attack on the BKU university by the prime minister.

He said the government should have taken the incident seriously and made necessary security arrangements at the BKU.

He said that it was a golden opportunity for the government to take the political leadership and other stakeholders into confidence and evolve consensus for a decisive action against the terrorists.

He said the militants of the banned outfits were joining Daesh (Islamic State) and reorganising under its banner. He asked the government not to keep the nation in the dark about the emergence and activities of Daesh and take the threat seriously and take action against the organisation.

“The government should take action against the terrorist organisations from Fata to Punjab and Karachi,” he said.
