‘27pc of Punjab budget fixed for education’

The promotion of education is the priority of the Punjab government and it is good to see that Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) is playing an important role in this regard so that every child could make it to school and improve the quality of life.

According to a handout Punjab Education Minister Rana Mashhood Ahmad Khan said this while presiding over a meeting at PEF head office here on Saturday. Chairman PEF Engr. Qamar ul Islam Raja and managing director Tariq Mahmood, besides DMD (Ops) Tariq Rafiq, program directors and representatives of the Punjab Information Technology Board were also present.

Rana Mashhood said 27 pc of the total provincial budget was earmarked for the education sector alone, adding this proved strong commitment of the government towards this vital sector as its the basis of national development. 

While appreciating the educational role of the PEF, he said that this foundation has emerged as a successful model which has benefited the lower echelons of the society through its beneficial interventions.

Earlier, Chairman and MD-PEF informed the participants about various initiatives taken by this foundation for the promotion of education in the indigent strata.  

Nurses: Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Najam Ahmad Shah has said main focus of healthcare delivery system is on providing better medical care to the people. He said nurses played a pivotal role in providing treatment facilities to the patients.

According to a handout issued on Saturday, Secretary Health, while addressing a certificate distribution ceremony among position-holder nursing students in the annual examination of nursing examination board Punjab, said every step would be taken for the development of nursing profession, improvement of service structure, capacity-building of teachers and uplifting of educational standard of nurses but the main purpose of all these efforts should be to ensure better healthcare facilities for the public and those who would render their services to achieve this goal would be patronised and encouraged. He said purpose of education was not only to get a degree or position but to grow as a better human being too.
