Minor girl burnt alive in Toba Tek Singh

A minor girl was burnt alive in a fire at Chak 189/GB on Wednesday.

Saadia, daughter of farmer Yasin, was asleep when her three-year-old brother Nadeem ignited a fire with a matchstick.

As a result, the fire erupted and engulfed her. She received critical burn injuries and was being shifted to Faisalabad Allied Hospital but near Gojra she died.

BONDED LABOUR: Speakers of a moot Wednesday urged the government to eliminate bonded labour from brick kilns, small industries and hotels.

Addressing the fifth workers conference held under the auspices of an organization on the topic of “achieving decent work by combating abusive bonded labour”, the speakers called for implementing the government’s notification regarding fixation of Rs 962 per 1,000 bricks as wages for kiln workers, opening schools for kiln workers’ children, establishing a social security office and hospital near workers colonies.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MPA Chaudhry Amjad Ali Javed, known poet Baba Najmi, Ms Rafia Ashfaq, Ghulam Muhammad Ghanjera, Waseem Yusuf, Ayub Anjum and Klement Kemey also spoke.

FARMERS PROTEST: Farmers Wednesday staged a protest demonstrations at Chuttiana and blocked Toba-Shorkot Road for more than one hour against the staff who allegedly want bribes from them.

They accused the staff deputed to distribute gunny bags of demanding bribes from them for registering their names for the bags. Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Shafique held talks with them and assured them that an inquiry would be held into the matter and in future the gunny bags would be issued on merit. On the assurance of the AC, they ended the protest.

AWARENESS WALK: An awareness walk regarding vaccination week was held by the health department on Wednesday.

The walk started from health complex upto Shahbaz Chowk. EDO (Health) Dr Nawaz Ranjha led the walk and told the participants that the vaccination week will continue until April 30.

APPOINTED: The Lahore High Court Bar Association president Rana Zia Abdul Rehman Wednesday appointed former Toba DBA president Rana Muhammad Anwar as member of the executive committee of the LHCBA.

injured: Seven people were injured when a gas cylinder exploded in a house at Sir Hind Colony, Vehari on Wednesday.

Reportedly, the family of trader Sheikh Yaqoob had gone to a bazaar, leaving gas supply on.

After return from the bazaar, the gas cylinder exploded as Yaqoob’s wife tried to lit the burner and the fire engulfed the entire house. However, the family members were rescued by residents of the area.

The injured are Ayesha, Anas, Muhammad Bilal, Maryam, Anam, Khadeja and Nasreen.

robbed:  Dacoits and thieves took away cash, gold ornaments and other valuables in different incidents in Gujranwala on Wednesday.

In Alipur Chatha bandits intercepted Faiz and his wife and snatched Rs 17,000, gold ornaments and two cellphones. Afzal was deprived of Rs 32,000 and two cellphones in Alipur Chatha.

At Sohdra, Arshad and his wife were intercepted by robbers and were deprived of Rs 35,000, gold ornaments and two cellphones. Gunmen snatched Rs 47,000 and a cellphone from Fayyaz at Wahndo.

In Sadr police station limits dacoits deprived Ansar of Rs 16,000 and a cellphone. At Emanabad, robbers snatched motorcycle (GAZ-7571) from Rauf. Robbers deprived Moazam of a new motorcycle in Khiali. Akbar was intercepted by robbers in the Peoples Colony and was deprived of Rs 14,000 and a cellphone. The new car of Khaqan Cheema and motorcycles of Mudassar, Ishaq, Irshad and Ahmed were stolen from different places. Police have registered cases.

Shopkeepers: Shopkeepers are accused of violating government fixed price regulations especially in terms of sale of ghee in Nankana Sahib and its outskirts.

Reportedly, the district administration is ignoring the issue whereas the government of Punjab had fixed rates of ghee of different brands ranging from Rs145 to Rs153 per kilogram. According to locals, shopkeepers overcharge them when they buy ghee. They have demanded high-ups to look into the matter.

FINED: Secretary District Transport Authority Attia Qamar Wednesday fined several transport owners for alleged overcharging on different routes including Nankana, Morkhunda and Mangtanwala. She imposed Rs 20,000 fine on transport owners.

Valuables: Locals were deprived of cash and valuables in different areas in Pakpattan on Wednesday.

Eight thieves entered the house of Tauqeer Ahmed of Nosheer Bodlla when all family members of Tauqeer were not at home and stole gold ornaments and other valuables worth Rs 310,000. Some 55 thieves entered the rice mills of Ijaz Ahmad of Chak 57/EB and stole two batteries and wires worth Rs 475,000.

Five thieves including accused Muhammad Ramazan stole forest department’s wood worth Rs 137,494 from Chak 35/SP. Police have registered cases.

FAKE CHEQUE: Police Wednesday booked a man on charges of issuing fake cheque. Reportedly, accused Muhammad Ameer had gotten Rs 175,400 loan from Muhammad Sarfaraz of Pakpattan and issued him a cheque that bounced. Police have registered a case.

POWER THEFT: Police Wednesday booked eight accused on charges of stealing electricity.

On the report of the SDO Wapda, police booked accused Muhammad Iqbal of Pir Ghani and seven others.
