Bollywood director Kabir Khan heckled at Karachi Airport

KARACHI:  Bollywood director Kabir Khan was heckled at Karachi airport on April 27 for making ‘anti-Pakistan’ films. The director of Phantom, Ek Tha Tiger and Bajrangi Bhaijaan was in the city on day-long visit to attend a marketing conference and was heading to Lahore, the city he fantasise a lot.

On his way back to Lahore when the director arrived at the Jinnah International airport, a few people encircled him and started shouting slogans ‘Shame Shame’. One of the protestors tried to hurl a shoe at Kabir Khan.

A viral video on social media shows demonstrators shouting anti-India slogans mobbed the Bollywood director, loudly asking him why he did not make movies depicting the role played by the Indian intelligence agency RAW in Pakistan.

Kabir Khan’s films like Phantom, Ek Tha Tiger were banned in Pakistan at the time of their release.”Phantom”, based on a novel by S. Hussain Zaidi, was banned by the Lahore High Court. Starring Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif, “Phantom” is about a retired Indian Army officer who leads a mission to to kill Hafiz Saeed.

Kabir Khan’s “Bajrangi Bhaijaan” received a warm response in Pakistan, where Indian movies are always in great demand. While speaking at the conference a day before Karachi, Kabir khan was all praise of Lahore and said he enjoyed eating Lahori foods and was happy to meet with real Chaand Nawab here in Karachi.

Kabir Khan reacted to the incident with a positive note requesting media to ignore the protestors. Terming them as screaming lunatics, Bajrangi Bhaijaan’s director tweeted, “To media on both sides: 12 screaming lunatics with mobile phone cameras is not news. Please don’t give them the attention they want. Ignore.”
