DG ISPR says terrorists were contained within 50-meters of Badaber camp

PESHAWAR: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) branch of the Pakistan Army briefed the media on Friday evening regarding the attack on the PAF camp at Badaber. He clarified that the attackers were only able to penetrate 50 meters into the site and were unable to permeate further.

PESHAWAR: Director General Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) branch of the Pakistan Army briefed the media on Friday evening regarding the attack on the PAF camp at Badaber. He clarified that the attackers were only able to penetrate 50 meters into the site and were unable to permeate further.

He said that the terrorists resorted to firing while entering the premises, armed with rocket launchers and grenades, adding that the personnel in the guard room gave a befitting response to them.
He further said that after entering the site the terrorists divided into groups with one group headed towards the administration area, while the other group proceeded towards the technical area.

Bajwa went on to say that eight of the militants advanced towards a mosque where worshipers were preparing for Fajr prayers. 15 people embraced martyrdom in the mosque while 7 others while they were performing ablution.

Within 10-minutes the quick response force reached the camp site and began their operation. He emphasized that the terrorists were trying to hide behind vehicles running between the parking bay and most were killed in that area.

He said the Army Chief General Raheel Sharif and the Air Chief Marshal Sohail Aman also reached Peshawar later in the day and also called on the injured.

Explaining who the terrorists were, DG ISPR said, the attackers were part of a splinter group of the Taliban and had come to Pakistan from Afghanistan. He added that the attack was planned in Afghanistan and was also being controlled from Afghanistan further adding that the intelligence agencies were working on the information intercepts of the terrorists.

The DG ISPR thanked the media for remaining objective in their coverage. He added that whenever such a sporadic attack takes place it should be observed how quickly the attempt was thwarted.

He said the morale of the forces remains high and that armed forces will continue to fight the terrorists in the same way they have been fighting further adding that they will continue to fight them till they are eliminated.

Responding to questions regarding any possible support the terrorists may have had from within the forces, the DG ISPR responded that he could not categorically deny whether the terrorists had any support but stressed that he could not imagine that at a time when the forces morale is at the highest there could be a chance of any involvement or support from within, adding that he cannot comment further on the matter.
