PESHAWAR: A former lawmaker of the Jamaat-e-Islami from Chitral, Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali was admitted to the Lady Reading Hospital after he was found unconscious in Mardan late Thursday night.
A Jamaat-e-Islami office-bearer said Maulana Abdul Akbar Chitrali had left Peshawar on Thursday and nobody knew as to who was accompanying him. Later, the local people in Mardan found him unconscious and they shifted him to the hospital. On Friday he was brought to the Lady Reading Hospital in Peshawar.
“He is still unconscious at the Intensive Care Unit of the hospital,” Israrullah, the spokesman for the JI told
The News. He added that
the Maulana’s cellular phone, cash and documents were missing. “We have no idea as to what had happened as there was nobody accompanying him. Only he can tell what happened to him once he regains consciousness,” Israrullah added.
Abdul Akbar Chitral is a senior leader of the JI. He was elected Member of the National Assembly from
Chitral in the 2002 general election on the ticket of the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), an alliance of six Islamic parties including the JI.
He is presently heading a seminary functioning in the JI’s provincial headquarters, Markaz-e-Islami, in Peshawar.
