Islamabad: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has achieved a singular distinction making non-formal or distance-learning system highly successful, raising literacy rate and promoting higher education in the country.
This was stated by Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while addressing a farewell party held in honour of four retired officials including former controller examination Dr. Hamid Khan Niazi. The farewell party was arranged by the Faculty of Education. The other employees were naib qasib Haq Nawaz, Muhammad Zaman and Gul Hussain.
The non-formal system played vital role in achieving stipulated targets in the educational sector. The AIOU is now laying greater focus on introducing online education with maximum use of digital-based technology. A few PhD level online courses will be launched soon, Dr. Siddiqui added.
He paid rich tributes to the retired employees, who, he said, rendered dedicated and untiring services for putting the university on a strong footing. Dr. Hamid Niazi's commitment to his job was highly commendable. He also praised rich human qualities, the VC added.
While consolidating the work already done, the AIOU is working on some new initiatives for bringing about qualitative improvement in academic and administrative network for sake of quality education and providing best possible services to their 1.4 million students across the country, he said.
Hectic efforts are also being made to improve the AIOU’s academic-raking, by enhancing research-based activities, revision of textbooks, capacity-building of employees, strengthening students’ support and delivering system. Besides, some other social and cultural activities have also been started for the benefit of students and the teaching staff.
