LAHORE
A large number of Punjab University (PU) teachers on Tuesday once again took out a rally against Orange Train Project and symbolically blocked a road for a minute.
The rally was organised by the PU Academic Staff Association (PUASA) in which the participants protested, saying the offices of Orange Train Project were being established at the varsity’s housing society, the University Town-I, Raiwind.
The teachers took out the rally from the varsity’s Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology which concluded on Campus Road after briefly blocking the traffic. The protesters were holding placards and banners inscribed with anti-orange train project slogans.
Besides others PU ASA president Prof Dr Hasan Mobeen Alam, Vice President Prof Dr Abid Hussain Ch, secretary Dr Mahboob Hussain, Dr Shazia Qureshi, Dr Liaqat Ali, Dr Sajid Rashid, Dr Kamran Abid and a large number of teachers were present.
Dr Mahboob Hussain addressing the rally said bureaucracy under some nefarious designs was misguiding the government and avoiding use of agricultural land situated next to University Town-I. He said the agricultural land could be purchased easily on cheaper rates but the bureaucracy purposely wanted to construct offices on developed land to save agricultural land of influential people. He said the PU teachers would not accept construction of project offices on the Town-I land at any cost. He urged the government not to compel the teachers for taking extreme steps.
Earlier, general body meeting of ASA was held in the auditorium of Institute of Biochemistry and Biotechnology which was presided over by Dr Hasan Mobeen Alam.
Dr Hasan Mobeen Alam said TEPA and NESPAK officials were allegedly providing wrong information to the high ups which will create serious problems for the government.
