Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf candidate for General Councillor in the local government elections Abdul Ghaffar was gunned down by five persons during his campaign in the Garhi Shahu area on Wednesday.
The PTI candidate Chaudhry Abdul Ghaffar Gujjar was campaigning for LG polls at Sardar Iqbal High School when the companions of his rival candidate, of whom five identified as Aslam Dogar, Umar Dogar, Farrukh Dogar, Ahmad Dogar and ASI Ghulam Shabbir opened fire, killing Ghaffar on the spot and injuring his brother.
The family of the deceased PTI candidate accused the PML-N candidate for the killing. The workers staged a protest in the area after the killing. Police shifted the body to hospital for autopsy.
Meanwhile, PTI activists Wednesday staged a demonstration on Garhi Shahu Chowk against the killing of PTI candidate for general councillor in the local government elections.
The protesters not only blocked the traffic by burning tyres but also chanted slogans against the Lahore police.
They demanded immediate arrests of culprits involved in the murder of Abdul Ghaffar. The protest clogged the traffic at Garhi Shahu Chowk, Davis Road and adjoining areas for at least four hours. The situation caused a severe traffic jam first around the Garhi Shahu Chowk where vehicles were seen piling up. Within the next few minutes, the mess stretched to adjoining areas as hundreds of vehicles finding no way moved onto the key roads.
shot dead: A father of two children was shot dead by two persons at Sharif Garden Baghbanpura on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Sajjad Ahmad. On the day of the incident, Sajjad was on his way back home in his car after dropping his children at school when two armed bike riders intercepted him, fired shots at him and fled the scene. As a result, he received fatal injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he died.
Police shifted the body to morgue and registered a murder case against the unidentified killers on the complaint of the victim’s nephew Mohammad Adeel.
arrested: CTO Lahore Wednesday directed the DSPs and sector in-charges to ensure strict action against the beggars begging on roads, traffic signals and in and around the temporary markets of sacrificial animals.
He said the traffic police had arrested 258 beggars, of which 172 women and children were handed over to the Child Protection Bureau. Traffic police got registered 86 cases against professional beggars in various police stations.
accidents: Total 612 road traffic accidents were reported in Rescue 1122’s Provincial Monitoring Cell in all districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours; in which three lives were lost and 505 serious injured were shifted to different hospitals of relevant district. However, some 210 victims sustaining minor injuries were provided first aid on the spot.
found dead: A 40-year-old man was found dead in the Karim Park Shafiqabad area on Wednesday. The victim was identified as Sher Ali. Some passersby spotted the body of Sher Ali and informed the police. The man might have died of cardiac seizure, police claimed. Body was shifted to morgue.
smugglers: Anti-Human Trafficking Cell (AHTC) of FIA Lahore claimed to have arrested four human smugglers who were also declared proclaimed offenders (POs). According to FIA officials, among those who were arrested by AHTC Lahore on Wednesday included Muhammad Riaz, Zaigham Abbas, Kashif Rafique, and Taufeeq Hussain.
