Q1: I am from Karachi and want to ask about my career. My parents want me to do Engineering in Civil/Electrical or Petroleum but I don’t have interest and I am not good in Physics and Math. I want to do BS in Computer Science so please let me know is it worth doing? (Anwar Rahim - Karachi)
Ans: Computing science is a very strong field especially if you have strong interest and you are serious in making a career in this area. I would suggest you should convince your parents to let you do BSCS following which I would recommend you to do MSc in either Internet Security or Cyber Crimes that will help you to find better career opportunities.
Q2: I just completed my O-levels and want to pursue a career in genetic research. Can you please guide me as to what subjects I should choose in my A-levels and which courses in the universities would be best? My O-levels result: Biology-A*, Chemistry-A*, Physics-A*, Math-A*. (Sher Naz - Islamabad)
Ans: You need a good understanding and command on biology, chemistry and math to pursue a degree in genetic engineering or sciences. There are huge career opportunities in this area and once you have completed your A-levels I shall be in a better position to guide you towards a good bachelor’s qualification.
Q3: I want to become an Electrical Engineer and there are many departments in Electrical Engineering. Please guide me what is popular in market in these days Power & Electronics? (Nadeem Awan - Peshawar)
Ans: If you want to become an electrical engineer you should do the basic degree which is known as BSC electrical. However, I would suggest that you either do bachelors in electronics or mechatronics if possible. These have wider career prospects.
Q4: My son has recently passed his Matriculation from FBISE Islamabad securing 73 percent marks. We are planning for him to be admitted in any institution where he could prepare himself for CIMA (UK Commerce Degree). Would it be right to go straight for CIMA directly after matriculation? Would you please be kind enough to advice us in this regards? (Nasir Akhtar - Saudi Arabia)
Ans: Firstly I do not understand why would you like him to do CIMA? Is it because you want him to become a management accountant? The better qualification could be ACCA and I would still recommend he does his FSc or I.Com and then move to do the professional
qualifications.
