The Old Ravians Union (ORU) executive committee has raised a great concern over the unnecessary delay in appointment of the Vice-Chancellor of Government College University, Lahore, and made an appeal to Old Ravian and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif to immediately appoint head of their alma mater keeping in view that the admissions process is on in the university and presence of a vice-chancellor is highly crucial for transparency, merit and above all financial assistance to the deserving students.
In a press statement issued here on Wednesday, ORU President Kamran Lashari said that Old Ravians had a great concern that their alma mater had been working without the Head of the institution for the last more than three weeks which had certainly hampered the routine administrative and academic work besides hurting the repute and prestige of the university.
ORU Honorary Secretary Dr Khalid Manzoor Butt said Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s love for his alma mater, GCU, was undoubted. Just three years back, Shahbaz Sharif, on the request of the Old Ravians Union, got changed the designs of metro route just of avoid demolition of the historical GCU Lovers Garden. “Now, once again, Old Ravians expect same kind of attention from the chief minister for his alma mater”, Dr Butt said. He submitted that GCU Endowment Fund Trust, which funded the fee of hundreds of students, from donations of Old Ravians was also bearing loss as they were unable to make several investments due to the absence of vice-chancellor.
