LAHORE A delegation of Lahore High Court Bar Association (LHCBA) led by its President Pir Masood Chishti called on Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif who, on the occasion, gave approval to the decision of providing annual grant for the bar associations in the province, saying legislation would be carried out for the purpose. He also announced a special grant of Rs 40 million for LHCBA. The chief minister said lawyers played a key role in providing prompt justice to the people and their services for the stability of democratic system and supremacy of Constitution were commendable. He said the lawyers’ community would have to play an active role in ensuring justice to the citizens at police station and court levels. He said provision of justice to the common man at his doorstep was a big challenge and the role of lawyers was very important in introducing reforms in the justice system. The problems being faced by lawyers would be resolved on a priority basis, he added. He said effective measures had been taken at every level for ensuring merit and transparency. He added that the land record management information system was of vital importance in maintaining transparency, which had been introduced in several tehsils of Punjab. He said the project would soon be completed in all districts of the province at a cost of Rs 14 billion. He said sit-in politics had caused a huge loss to national economy; however, the government was moving ahead with a renewed determination for overcoming energy crisis. The LHCBA delegation assured the chief minister of full support to the steps taken for provision of justice to the common man. On the other hand, the chief minister told the visiting provincial ministers and lawmakers that Pakistan was passing through a critical phase of history and there was a dire need of national unity and harmony. He said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif enjoyed the support of all political forces and government was making various decisions to counter the challenges with collective wisdom. Those who met Shahbaz were: provincial ministers Syed Haroon Ahmad Sultan Bukhari and Malik Nadeem Kamran; MNAs Sajid Mehdi, Basit Bukhari and Begum Iffat Liaquat; and MPAs Malik Muhammad Nawaz, Bao Akhtar and Nighat Sheikh.
