Sindh Assembly Speaker Agha Siraj Khan Durrani on Monday announced submitting disqualification references against four opposition lawmakers with the assembly’s Law Department.
References prepared against Opposition members belonging to the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F): Shaharyar Khan Mahar, Imtiaz Ahmed Sheikh, Nusrat Seher Abbasi, and Nand Kumar were prepared for allegedly disrespecting the sanctity of the house and also violating rules and regulations of the provincial assembly during a session.
Speaking to newsmen, Durrani said the references had been sent to the assembly’s Law Department and would be submitted with the EC after fulfilment of legal formalities. “It is up to the Election Commission to take further course of action against them.” The speaker claimed to have given the lawmakers the opportunity to apologise for the misconduct but they did not. He said the references were prepared to ensure that members maintained the sanctity of the house as well as fulfil constitutional requirements.
The disqualification references pertained to the PML-F and Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz lawmakers protest during assembly session of April 6, 2015. The lawmakers had gathered around the Speaker’s rostrum, chanted slogans and tore copies of the ‘Rules of procedure’ to protest against his decision to end the ‘Call attention notices’ session, which they termed was abrupt. They had later stormed out of the session.
A day later on April 07, the Sindh Assembly through majority vote passed a censure motion against MPA Shaharyar Khan Mahar for tearing his copy.

Adjournment motion
Opposition MPA of the PTI Khurrum Sher Zaman submitted an adjournment motion in the Sindh Assembly secretariat on the May 23 incident during which masked law enforcement agencies personnel had manhandled media persons outside the Sindh High Court premises, in order for the matter to be discussed in the assembly.
