PESHAWAR: The National Industrial Relations Commission (NIRC) has issued non-bailable arrest warrant for general manager Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited for non-compliance with the commission’s order about restoration of PTCL employees.
The NIRC headed by its member Azharul Habib also issued contempt notice to the GM PTCL and directed the company to reinstate the petitioners within seven days.
The commission issued the direction in contempt petition against the GM PTCL for non-implementation of the order about reinstatement of two PTCL employees, Syed Miraj Hussain and Syed Fida Muhammad, even after the commission’s order.
The PTCL had terminated the services of 25 employees including the two petitioners, but later reinstated 23 employees. They were terminated by the company after their participation in a protest against the PTCL along with hundreds of workers over non-issuance of 50 percent increase in the salaries as announced by the then prime minister, Yousaf Raza Gilani.
The NIRC Peshawar, which was proper forum for the cases in July 2014, restored the petitioners, which the PTCL challenged in the PHC.
However, the PHC dismissed the PTCL petition and directed it to approach the proper forum, which is full bench of the NIRC in Islamabad. The NIRC full bench, on October 27, dismissed the PTCL appeal, directing the company to reinstate the petitioners on the service forthwith.
