SUKKUR: Two policemen, including an ASI, were killed in an attack on a police checkpoint in Shikarpur. Unidentified assailants escaped after the attack, taking the weapons of their victims with them. Police sources said that five assailants attacked the police checkpoint near Lakhi Ghulam Shah in Shikarpur, killing ASI Haji Muhammed Budhra and Constable Ghulam Rasool Sahatto.
The SSP of Shikarpur rushed to the crime scene and ordered sealing of the exit routes. The funeral of the martyred policemen were attended by the DIG of Larkana, Sain Rakhio Mirani and other officials who paid rich tribute to the services of the late policemen.

Two killed in Haripur clash

HARIPUR: Two persons were killed in a clash over a petty issue in Afghan refugees’ camp in Kot Najibullah here on Tuesday, police said. They said that the children of one Mohib Ali, the resident of the Afghan refugees’ camp, and Pazir Nisar, the resident of Panian village, quarrelled with each other that led to a clash. Mohib Ali and Pazir Nisar both were killed in the exchange of fire. Meanwhile, a three-year old boy drowned in a canal in Khanpur area. Ayan Ali, the resident of Punj Katha village, was playing outside his home when he fell into the canal.

Explosives defused in Lakki

LAKKI MARWAT: The police defused explosive material in Takhtikhel village in Serai Naurang tehsilon Tuesday, sources said. They said that acting on a tip-off, the police raided a house in Takhtikhel village and recovered two explosive devices, 12 anti-tank shells and five kilograms of explosives. The bomb disposal unit officials cordoned off the area and defused the explosive devices.

Woman killed in Nowshera

NOWSHERA: Unidentified persons killed a young woman in Ziarat Kaka Sahib here on Tuesday, sources said.The sources said that unidentified persons brought a young woman identified as Aziza Bibi in a car (RX-707) from Peshawar to Ziarat Kaka Sahib, where they killed her due to unknown reason.The sources said that the accused were trying to flee the scene when their car collided with a pickup van in which the occupants of the van identified as Atif and Gul Zamin sustained injuries. The accused abandoned the wreckage of the car on a roadside and fled the scene. The police shifted the body of the woman to the District Headquarters Hospital in Nowshera and registered the case against unknown accused.

Relief items distributed in Chitral

CHITRAL: A senior official said that the police distributed relief items among the earth-quake victims in the district. Talking to The News on Tuesday, District Police Office (DPO) Abbas Majeed Khan Marwat said that after the earthquake on October 26, the police started relief and rescue activities in the district. “Clearing the roads, the police reached far-flung areas with relief goods and distributed among the earthquake-affected people in Drosh, Ayun, Arandu, Booni, Mastuj, Chitral town, Koghuzi, Shoghore and Lotkoh,” he added.He said that the relief items, including tents, floor mats, warm clothes, flour bags, used garments, quilts, blankets and food items, were distributed among 1063 families.

Appointment of ZTBL officer challenged

ISLAMABAD: Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) here Monday directed Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL) to submit report and para wise comments over the appointment of its Chief Operating Officer (COO), as the appointment is challenged, allegedly being unlawful. An ex-vice president ZTBL, Naseer Pervez Qureshi, filed the petition to challeng the appointment of Sheikh Amanullah as COO while claiming that neither the post of COO is promotional nor it could be filled without adopting due process of law. The petitioner has prayed to the court to set aside the said appointment and remand investigation of this matter to either FIA or NAB.

Three human smugglers held in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA: The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Tuesday arrested three human smugglers in separate incidents here. In the first incident, the FIA conducted a raid at Hafizabad and arrested human trafficker Rana Imran for receiving Rs 153,000 from a citizen for the release of his brother who was arrested by the Turkish police. In another raid, the FIA arrested human trafficker Muhammad Khan from Phalia. The raid was conducted on the application of a deportee Tasawar Hussain. In another raid, the FIA nabbed human smuggler Anan Shafaqat from Wazirabad.

Youth, girl killed for ‘honour’ in Pakpattan

PAKPATTAN: A youth and a girl were killed for honour here on Tuesday. Ibrahim and six others doubted that Shah Rasool of Chak Amar Singh had developed relations with their relative Shagufta Bibi d/o Muhammad Yar Kharal. On the day of the incident, Shah Rasool was on his way when Ibrahim and six others allegedly shot him dead. Later, the accused abducted Shagufta Bibi and took her to the cotton field where they shot her dead. Kalayana police have registered a case on the report of Zainab Bibi, mother deceased Shah Rasool, and started investigation.

Man booked for making fake document

CHAKWAL: Sadr police Tuesday booked an accused on the charges of making a bogus document. In charge judicial lockup Chakwal Sub-Inspector Badar Munir told police that Irfan Ehsan made a fake document. The District and Sessions Judge Chakwal directed Additional Sessions judge Ijaz Ahmad Butter to hold a probe into the issue. On the order of the court police arrested Irfan. Woman axed to death in Jhang

JHANG: Three assailants Tuesday axed to death a woman and injured her husband critically. Mukhtar Ahmad and his wife Nasira Bibi of Naseerabad were sleeping at their house when three accused entered the house and axed to death his wife and injured him critically. Mukhtar told the 18 Hazari police that he married Nasira ten years ago and her brothers were not happy with this marriage. Mukhtar was shifted to DHQ hospital.
