PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Pervez Khattak approved establishment of 16 new degree colleges in various districts of the province and asked the authorities to start execution of the project under an umbrella scheme.
Chairing separate meetings at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on Friday, he issued orders for establishment of new colleges and development schemes in gas producing southern districts.
The chief minister reviewed 19 proposed colleges and directed authorities to initiate construction work on 16 colleges which would cost five billion rupees. The new colleges include 10 for girls and six for boys in Swat, Upper Dir, Lower Dir, Abbottabad, Peshawar, Chitral, Buner, Nowshera, Dera Ismail Khan, Mardan, Lakki Marwat and Charsadda districts.
He directed authorities to follow the provincial government policy for establishing new colleges under uniform design, standard, facilities and accommodation. Regarding development schemes of gas producing southern districts, Pervez Khattak directed spending the gas royalty revenue on drinking water, supply of gas to domestic consumers and higher education schemes in the oil and gas producing districts.
