ISLAMABAD: JUI-F chief Maulana Fazlur Rahman said Thursday what he could say about Imran Khan’s second marriage as “despite being younger than Imran, I never felt the need for second marriage.” The JUI-F was asked by reporters to comment on Imran Khan’s second marriage.

PTI to resume agitation if judicial commission not formed

PESHAWAR: The PTI is fully prepared to resume its agitation with even more vigour against the government if Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif failed to honour his own words to form the judicial commission to probe the allegations of rigging in the May 2013 general election.This was stated by the member of the Core Committee of the PTI and secretary of its overseas chapter, Dr Humayun Khan Mohmand in an interview with The News. He said this time the agitation would lead to a certain change in the politics of the country. “The PTI is under immense pressure from both the people in the country and Pakistanis abroad to launch a struggle for the correction of the electoral process in the country,” he said.

Schools yet to receive funds for
construction of boundary walls

CHARSADDA: As many as 63 government schools in the district are exposed to security threats as the District Accounts Office has yet to transfer funds for construction or raising of the boundary walls of schools to eight feet. The sources said that 63 schools in the district were either without boundary walls or their walls were below eight feet. The construction work should have been completed before January 12 when the educational institutions are scheduled to reopen. The Education Department had released the funds for raising or construction of these walls. However, the District Accounts Office has not yet transferred the funds to the accounts of the schools. The Education Department had issued directives to the schools to take security measures before January 11.

Maid tortured for demanding wages
GUJRANWALA: A landlord tortured his maid for demanding wages of Rs 240 at Tamboli village in Wahndo police area. Nasim Bibi, wife of Anwar, has obtained the medico-legal certificate and approached the Wahndo police for action against the house owner. In another incident, Bashir beat up his female tenant Sana, daughter of Nazar, for lighting fire in a room at Zahid Colony. She was injured and taken to DHQ Hospital.

Doctors to protest against PGMI dissolution today
PESHAWAR: The doctors of Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) on Thursday announced to keep their private clinics closed today (Friday) and start sit-in outside the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to protest the proposed dissolution of the institute. Different associations of the doctors held a general body meeting at the Lady Reading Hospital and decided to oppose the dissolution.

Woman throws acid on husband

LAHORE: A man received burns after his wife threw acid at him over some domestic issues in a Misri Shah area on Thursday. The injured was identified as Naseem of Chah Miran Misri Shah. Police said the accused identified as Musarrat Bibi had nursed a grudge against her husband upon frequently torturing her. On the day of incident, Musarrat Bibi threw acid at her husband after exchanging hot words. As a result, Asif received burns. He was rushed to a local hospital where his condition was out of danger. No case was registered till the filing of this report.
Son of KP CM’s advisers in scuffle with cop

MINGORA: The son of the advisor to the chief minister on Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives, Mohibullah Khan, scuffled with the traffic warden when the latter wanted to issue him a ticket for traffic violation here on Thursday. The police sources said the warden Akhtar Ali stopped Malik Ashraf over violation of the traffic signal at the Haji Baba Chowk. Malik Ashraf exchanged harsh words with the cop who wanted to issue him ticket. It led to a scuffle but the issue was quickly resolved. When contacted, the Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sadiq Akbar, said that it was a minor issue and had been settled.

35 CCTV cameras out-of-order on sessions court premises

GUJRANWALA: Thirty-five out of 62 CCTV cameras are out-of-order on the session court premises, said security in-charge Inspector Imran Saleem. He said that there were 38 CCTV cameras in the portion of session and additional session judges. Of them, 28 were out-of-order, he added. He said that of 24 cameras installed in the civil judges section, seven were out-of-order. He said that the 35 CCTV cameras had been out-of-order for the last three months. He said that he had repeatedly informed the officers concerned in this regard but to no avail.

Train kills girl in Lahore

LAHORE: A 26-year-old girl died after coming under the wheels of a moving train in Factory Area on Thursday. As per eyewitnesses, the girl, yet to be identified, suddenly threw herself before the train near Walton Phattak. As a result, she died on the spot. Police suspected that the girl may have committed suicide by doing the said action. The body was shifted to the morgue.

Two rockets recovered in Haripur

HARIPUR: The police recovered two rockets near the Government Primary School at Panian here on Thursday. Station House Officer (SHO) of Kot Najibullah Police Station, Hukam Khan, said that on information of locals, the police recovered two Russian-made rockets near the school. The SHO said a bomb disposal unit defused the projectiles in a deserted area. The police registered a case.

Demo against gas loadshedding

GUJRANWALA: People staged a demonstration against gas loadshedding at Chowk Nain on Thursday. The demonstrators belonging to different areas were chanting slogans against the gas loadshedding. They said that the loadshedding had made their lives miserable. They said that the loadshedding had forced them to buy cooked food from hotels, which was affecting their domestic budget. They demanded the SNGPL high-ups look into the matter and take steps to end the loadshedding.

Punjab health official held for corruption

GUJRANWALA: The Gujranwala ACE arrested an accountant of the Hafizabad Health EDO for corruption. In an application, Shahzad Ashraf said that accountant Qamar was demanding Rs 10,000 bribe from him for issuing cleanliness NOC to his school. On Thursday, Inspector Rana Naeem under the supervision of Magistrate Waseem Anjum raided and arrested the accused official while receiving bribe from the complainant. The raiding team also recovered marked currency notes from him.

Cop shot dead in Dera Ismail Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN: Unknown motorcyclists shot dead a policeman outside his house here on Thursday, official sources said. The sources said that constable Mamoonur Rashid was standing outside his house near Rahat Gardan in Zafarabad Colony when two bike riders fired at him and rode away. The cop died on the spot. The killing prompted police to launch a search operation in the district against suspected persons.Mamoonur Rashid was son of Haroonur Rashid who is Station House Officer of the Cantonment Police Station.

Punjab minister opens work on lawyers’ hospital

LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Law, Finance, Excise and Taxation, Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman has said the provision of modern health facilities is the top priority of the government and the budget for health sector has been gradually increased. He said that a grant of three crore rupees had been provided on the behalf of the Punjab chief minister for the construction of lawyers’ hospital and the process of provision of funds would be continued in future as well. He said this while addressing an inaugural ceremony of the first phase of lawyers’ hospital on Dev Samaj Road.

QAU to decide about campus reopening today

ISLAMABAD: The top management of the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) is likely to meet today (Friday) to decide about the resumption of academic activities on the campus. The country’s leading public sector university had announced suspension of classes on the campus on December 27 for an indefinite period over terror threats. However, members of the staff continued to be on duty to keep the admission process going uninterrupted. A member of the administration staff said the university’s top management, including vice chancellor, registrar as well as deans of departments, would meet today (Friday) to examine the overall security situation of the city, especially with regard to the university campus.

Reopening of schools on 12th not clear as yet

ISLAMABAD: Though the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has announced the reopening of Islamabad’s government and private schools on January 12 after extended winter vacation, parents are not sure if classes of their children will resume as scheduled. The CADD oversees the capital’s government schools and colleges through the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) and private ones through the Private Educational Institutions Regulatory Authority (PEIRA). The city has more than 400 government and around 1,000 private schools, which, according to police, could be targeted by terrorists, especially in the wake of the Peshawar school attack, which left 151 people, including 132 children, dead on December 16.
