ISLAMABAD: The executive board of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Wednesday approved conducting an inquiry against former Gilgit-Baltistan chief minister and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Hafeez-ur-Rehman among a raft of other investigations.
The meeting of the NAB executive board chaired by Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal also authorised an inquiry against Maqbool Ahmed Lehri, former city Nazim of Quetta and a number of other people and entities.
Sharing the details of NAB’s executive board meeting, a spokesman of the bureau said the details that were being shared with the media “does not aim to hurt the feelings of anyone” as all inquiries and investigations were being initiated on the basis of allegations which were not final.
The decision to go ahead with the case is taken after assessing merits of the cases and assessing the “flipside of the coin”. Speaking on the occasion, NAB Chairman said achieving the target of a “corruption-free Pakistan” was the priority of bureau. He asked NAB’s detractors, to “utilise their energies to defend their corruption cases instead of criticising the bureau without any cogent reason”.
