ISLAMABAD: Islamabad police, along with the Rangers, on Thursday conducted search operations in different areas of the city and arrested 71 suspects, including 20 Afghans, a police spokesman said. Islamabad Inspector-General of Police Tahir Alam Khan drew a special plan for searching and combing the city following directives from Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to ensure foolproof security and to keep a vigilant eye on the suspected elements. The search operation was conducted in the wee hours of Thursday in Shakrial, Zia Masjid, Sohan, Iqbal Town, Khanna, Pind Paracha, Golra and Bari Imam where the team of police and Rangers screened houses, workshops, markets, under-construction buildings and residential areas. The 71 suspects held during the operation were being interrogated. A cache of explosives and weapons and liquor were also recovered. The recovery included SMG guns, pistols, bullets, motorcycles, laptops and narcotics. Meanwhile, the SP of Rural Area Zone, Dr Syed Mustafa Tanveer, said that the SHO of Koral police, Sajjad Hussain Bukhari, arrested a proclaimed offender and drug dealer, Sarwar alias Sarwara, who had been wanted to the police in many cases of narcotics and other heinous crimes registered in different police stations of Islamabad.
