Warning letters issued to 75 schools for not cooperating with polio teams

The Directorate of Inspection and Registration of Private Institution Sindh (DIRPIS) has issued warning letters to around 75 private schools that reportedly refused to allow polio teams to vaccinate the students in the recently started vaccination drive in the city.

Before starting the campaign, DIRPIS officials had asked all private schools to cooperate with the vaccinators, and had said that on refusal, the administrators and owners would face registration cancellation of their schools.

But after the start of the campaign, many schools’ owners did not act upon the instructions issued from the directorate. Reacting to such violations, the directorate called the owners and administrators of schools for an explanation.

According to DIRPIS secretary Rafia Javed, these measures have been taken over a complaint letter from the Karachi commissioner in which the commissioner had stated that some schools had refused to let the students be vaccinated in their schools.

These schools also did not allow the polio teams to enter their premises. “We have once again warned the schools’ owners to cooperate with polio teams, and if they decline to act on orders from the directorate they face the cancellation of registration for their schools as punishment.”
