LAHORE: Politically motivated and charged workers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) took over the city roads, which were already clad in banners and the flags of PTI on Sunday.

With the start of the day, a large number of PTI workers started gathering at specific points announced by their leaders as well as central leadership across the provincial capital. Routine traffic remained thin on the roads but PTI workers dominated the roads.

As the PTI held public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan; Ferozpur Road, Garden Town, Faisal Town, Wapda Town, Johar Town, Canal Bank Road, Garhi Shahu, Shahdara, Ravi Road, Walled City, Multan Road, Walton Road, LOS Road, Samanabad, Gulberg and Model Town were some of the areas where the workers holding party flags were waiting to join caravans of their leaders.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf workers in buses, cars and motorcycles were seen dancing and chanting anti-government slogans on the city roads all the day. Similarly, they were seen gathered outside the office of Abdul Aleem Khan at Garhi Shahu as well as at the residence of Mian Aslam Iqbal at Samanabad.

Long queues of vehicles, including buses, were seen parked on the Ravi Road, Azadi Chowk, Circullar Road, Data Darbar, Lorry Adda, Ravi Bridge and other adjoining roads in which the workers had come to attend the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s rally.

The PTI supporters also established camps on various roads to offer face painting, distribution of party flags, T-shirts, caps and posters.

Traffic rush was seen at Liberty Chowk, Ravi Road, Gawalmandi, Lahore Press Club, Shadbagh, UET Chowk, Ferozepur Road, Ichhra and other places because of traffic diversion plans of the city police.

High security measures were taken in the city and police were also seen patrolling the city roads. Dolphin police force was also seen doing snap checking on various roads. Till the filing of this report, no untoward incident was reported anywhere in the city.
