Girl student falls to death from Ravi bridge

LAHORE: A girl student of MBA finance drowned in the River Ravi after falling from the bridge in ambiguous circumstances on late Friday night.

The victim was a student at a university in Faisalabad. Reportedly, she had come to meet her friend Ali Shan, a student of engineering in Lahore. Later in the night, both were crossing the Ravi Bridge on foot due to congestion of traffic following the Tehreek Labbaik Ya Rasool Allah protests when the victim fell into the river under suspicious circumstances. The victim was admitted to Mayo Hospital but she could not survive.

Police removed the body to morgue, collected forensic evidences from the crime scene and recorded the statements of the eye-witnesses. Police also took Ali into their custody. They informed the family of the victim who reached Lahore in a few hours but refused to initiate any legal action. A police officer said that according to the initial police investigations, it was an accident. The victim and Ali Shan were very good friends. They also belonged to the same village. They had come to Lahore for shopping and recreation. In the night, they had come to the river bridge in a cab to take a bus for Faisalabad. The victim was trying to cross the bridge when she accidently fell into a ditch due to the dark and landed into the river, the police officer said, adding the ditch was created by the space between the new bridge and a portion of the old bridge. He said Ali Shan did not only inform police but also helped to remove her to hospital. The police said, however, the autopsy and further investigations would help find the facts. Police are investigating the matter.

accident: At least nine people sustained injuries when a tractor-trolley hit a van in the Sherakot police jurisdiction on Friday. The victims were shifted to Mian Munshi Hospital by Rescue 1122. Rescuers said the speeding tractor-trolley hit the van near a PSO filling station. As a result, the passengers suffered multiple injuries.
