GHAZI: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi Saturday said those who had used money in the Senate election to become senator had no right to represent people and he will confront them.

Addressing a gathering here after inaugurating 1410 MW Tarbela 4th Extension Hydropower Project, he said the ruling PML-N never encouraged such tactics and once again emerged as the only party whose candidates were elected without spending a single penny.

He said the PML-N always struggled for “clean politics” for the country’s future and was committed to confronting all dirty tactics in politics.

Abbasi said the PML-N had honoured it commitment of eliminating loadshedding by adding 10,000 megawatts to the supply system.

“We have completed projects having capacity to produce 10,000 megawatt power to eliminate loadshedding.

Now we are inaugurating one project on a weekly basis. Today’s ceremony is part of this initiative,” he said.

He said the government was concentrating on hydel power generation projects to produce cheap electricity.

“The country has a vast potential for hydel power generation. Construction of Diamer-Bhasha and Munda dams is the need of the hour,” he added.

“Now it is time to construct water reservoirs. Our population is growing apace and there is a need for construction of new water storage facilities to create a balance between the supply and demand,” he added.

The prime minister congratulated Wapda, engineers and Chairman Wapda General (R) Muzamil Hussain on timely execution of the much-needed project.

Earlier, Muzammil briefed the prime minister on the project in detail.

He said the first unit of Tarbela 4h Extension Hydropower Project was completed in one year and that too in the flood season.

The project has three units each with each unit having the capacity to produce 470 megawatts, he said, adding, “The total power generation capacity of all the three units is 1,410 megawatt.”
