Man slits throat of minor brother-in-law

OKARA: A man allegedly cut the throat of his minor brother-in-law here on Sunday.

M Akram had a quarrel with his wife. Later, she went to her parents' home at Mohallah Shakoorabad, Haveli Lakha. When he came to take her back, they again scuffled. Akram took his eight-year-old brother-in-law Umar along with him with the help of one of his friends, Raja.

They took him to fields where Akram allegedly slit his throat and escaped, leaving the boy panting and bleeding. Locals rescued him to the hospital from where he was referred to Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, in serious condition. Later, police arrested Akram. He gave statement to the police that his father-in-law Rashid used to commit atrocities on him and in vengeance, he cut the throat of Umar. Haveli Lakha police have registered a case and started investigation.

DC WARNS MILLS AGAINST WEIGHING LESS SUGARCANE: The sugarcane growers would not have to face any difficulty or loss at the hands of sugar mills. During the visit to a sugar mill here on Sunday, Deputy Commissioner Saima Ahad warned the mills administration that if any deduction in weight or less payment to the farmers was made or original receipt was not issued, severe legal action would be taken against the mills administration. She ordered sugarcane purchasing on government fixed rates. She also talked to the farmers.

The deputy commissioner also directed the mills administration to run the mills at its full capacity by keeping in view the comfort and facility of the farmers. She also visited the mills facility centre. The deputy commissioner also inaugurated the anti-polio campaign at the DHQ hospital and administered anti-polio drops to children.

HOTEL OWNER INJURED: A hotel owner was shot injured by some unidentified motorcyclists here on Sunday. Reportedly, Muhammad Afzal was present at his hotel when two armed motorcyclists came and opened fire.

After injuring him, they escaped from the scene. Afzal received six bullets and was rushed to the hospital. Later, he was referred to Lahore. Police have started investigation.
