The Higher Education Commission (HEC) will refer all fake degrees confiscated during the attestation process for legal investigation, a senior HEC official said on Saturday.
He said the commission took the decision to eliminate the menace of counterfeit educational documents — one of the major causes of corruption. He said the HEC on average attested 600 documents daily at its Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar offices. “Legal action against counterfeiters will deter corrupt elements in the society, since the verification of educational documents has now become mandatory for higher studies, employment within the country and abroad and visa processing.”
