CDA constitutes committee to remove illegally-installed pumps on water supply lines
Islamabad: The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has directed to constitute a committee headed by Member Administration, Capital Development Authority (CDA), Muhammad Yasir Peerzada to remove illegally installed water pumps, motors on water supply line, illegal connections on electricity and gas lines, the CDA spokesman said.
The committee constituted by the Islamabad High Court (IHC) would comprise Estate Officer, XEN, General Manager level officers of SNGPL and Wapda, Member Estate and Member Engineering of CDA and other senior officers of the concerned formations.
In the light of the directions of Islamabad High Court comprehensive campaign and operation against illegal water connections and motors and pumps installed on the water supply line by the allottees of government accommodations.
Residents of different government and private accommodations in the different areas of capital city have illegally installed motors pumps on the main water supply lines and other citizens have to face water shortage, therefore, strict and stern action should be taken in this regard.
These directions have been passed by the Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddique of Islamabad High Court through an order This order was passed on a Petition No.2507/2017 on dated 21.07.2017.
Senior officers of the relevant formations appeared before the court in the said petition while honourable court showed displeasure to Estate Officer for not appearing before the court. The court has directed the CDA to also include other members of the board so that with the mutual
and effective coordination and cooperation of planning, engineering, estate and administration the operation against illegal connections could be completed successfully.
The court has also directed the Chief Executive, Wapda and Managing Director, SNGPL to nominate officers of XEN, General Manager level to make this campaign more successful.In the meanwhile, Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI) has decided to implement the decision of the Islamabad High Court with immediate effect.
According to the CDA illegal connections and installation of motors and water pumps on the main supply line are depriving the other residents from the water thus depriving them from their basic right as well as creating water shortage in the city. CDA has decided not only to constitute special teams which would conduct a comprehensive operation but would also devise effective monitoring mechanism so that this practice could be discouraged in the future.
Moreover, CDA would take strict action against the elements involved in installation of water pumps and motors on water supply line under municipal by-laws and would initiate legal action against such elements.
