Islamabad: The number of people coming into educational net gets increased in the recent years and there has been upward trend in the annual enrolment of Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) both at secondary and higher education level.

This was stated by AIOU Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui while addressing regional directors (RDs) meeting held here on Monday through video conferencing link. He said all the 44 regional offices throughout the country have been activated with enhanced facilities and up-gradation of Learning Managing System (LMS). These measures, he said have brought very positive results both in term of enrolment and quality.

“We hope that the ratio of enrolment will be still better in the new academic year (Admission autumn 2017), that starts from First of August, he added. During the day-long meeting, a publicity plan to acquaint the people about the AIOU’s academic pursuits was discussed. The RDs gave their input and suggestions to ensure accessibility of AIOU's distance learning system at every nook and corner of the country.

Such RDs’ meetings were being arranged at regional headquarters on regular basis to streamline and improve admission, examination and students’ support system, the VC added. It was reiterated that the University will provide best possible educational services to its 1.3 million students across the country, by utilizing its all available financial, technical and human-resources.

A number of steps were taken during the last two and half years for up-gradation of the regional offices. These included setting up accessibility centres of visually impaired students, strengthening of library network and installation of security camera in the offices’ compound.

Dr. Shahid Siddiqui advised RDs that they must keep their offices open for attending students’ proposals and complaints. They should meet the students’ academics needs on fast-track basis.

He hoped that the regions will fully facilitate the students in the new admission process. They should set up Information Desks in their respective campuses to guide and help the students, he added.

Director Regional Services Dr. Mian Arif Saleem Arif, Dean Social Sciences Dr. Samina Awan, Director Admissions Syed Zia Ul Hussain Naqvi and other officers briefed the RDs about their duties and responsibility towards the students.
