ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Army cleared two strongholds of terrorists in the Rajgal Valley of Khyber Agency on Sunday.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Spinkai Top dominating the Saprai Pass and Star Kille had been secured. Two major passes entering from Afghanistan inside Pakistan had also been secured and being effectively dominated by the Pakistan Army.
Under the Operation Khyber-IV, the terrorists’ hideouts are being targeted by artillery and Army Aviation. IGFC, KP North, Major General Shaheen, said that the operation was progressing as planned while terrorists were on the run.
Meanwhile, a soldier of the paramilitary Frontier Constabulary (FC) was killed and another sustained injuries in an explosion caused by an Improvised Explosive device (IED) on the Frontier Road in Bara Tehsil of Khyber Agency, official and tribal sources said.
The sources said unidentified persons had planted an IED outside the wall of a temporarily-built checkpost of the Frontier Constabulary on the Frontier Road in the Speen Qabar area in Akakhel.
“The explosion occurred as soon as the FC personnel reached the checkpost early in the day,” said a source, adding, a soldier Muhammad Riaz was killed on the spot while another identified as Saqib sustained injuries. The injured FC man was rushed to hospital. The dead and injured belong to the Jamrud Tehsil in Khyber Agency.
Soon after the incident, security forces and Khassadar force personnel cordoned off the area and launched a search operation.No group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
