The Sindh Rangers foiled a terror plot in Karachi as the paramilitary force arrested four men associated with the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi (LeJ) on Saturday.
A Rangers spokesman said the paramilitary force conducted an intelligence-based targeted raid in Orangi Town, from where they arrested four LeJ terrorists and shifted them to the Rangers headquarters.
The spokesman said the detainees were high-profile terrorists who were planning a suicide attack on a Yaum-e-Ali procession, adding that the paramilitary force seized a huge cache of weapons and explosives in the raid.
He said the raiding team confiscated a suicide jacket, 15 kilograms of explosives, 18 hand grenades, two Kalashnikovs with 429 bullets, a .444 rifle, seven 30-bore pistols, 15 metres of wire and a computer.
A day earlier, the Rangers had claimed to have arrested 10 suspects, including criminals and militants affiliated with political parties, during different raids across the city.
The spokesman for the paramilitary force said the Rangers conducted a raid in Lyari and arrested a member of the Uzair Baloch group, namely Shahid Hussain alias Darinda for his alleged involvement in more than 20 cases of target killing, extortion and kidnapping for ransom.
The Rangers also carried out a raid in the Preedy area and apprehended an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-London (MQM-L), namely Zahid alias Khudoo.
During a raid in Saudabad, the paramilitary soldiers rounded up two alleged street criminals, who were identified as Zainul Abideen and Waseem. In the Mominabad area, two alleged drug peddlers, identified as Rashid Ali and Inshallah Khan, were arrested.
In a raid in Orangi Town, two alleged criminals involved in extortion and other heinous crimes were arrested: Mohammad Majid, alias Danish, is a member of the MQM-L and Faizan is affiliated with the Pakistan Sunni Tehreek.
In another raid in Orangi Town, the Rangers rounded up an alleged extortionist, Mohammad Afzaal Ansari, alias Faizi, while and a suspected robber, Abdul Aziz, was arrested during a raid in Saudabad.
Weapons, ammunitions, narcotics and looted items were found on the arrested suspects and all of them were handed over to the relevant police for further investigation.
