KP governor stresses conducive learning environment; 195 awarded degrees

University of Swat holds first convocation

MINGORA: Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said on Monday that the government was providing financial and material resources but the teachers and parents should continue to play effective role to ensure conducive learning environment.

 Speaking as chief guest at the first convocation of the University of Swat, he said, “The young generation of Pakistan is talented. It is equally important to make the required opportunities, resources and encouragement available to them to be able to compete in the emerging circumstances.”

The pioneer batch comprised of 195 graduates. The ceremony was also attended by Advisor to Prime Minister Amir Muqam, lawmakers from Swat and vice-chancellors of public sector universities of the province, educationists and parents of the graduating students. 

Around 50 students were awarded gold medals for achieving distinctions in their respective disciplines. The governor urged the students and teachers to work hard to ensure that Pakistan emerged as a strong, developed and vibrant country. He appreciated the academic and research programmes and wished that the University of Swat acted as an engine for growth and progress in this region.

Iqbal Zafar Jhagra praised the faculty for their concerted efforts in providing a strong base of research and studies in the field of Life Sciences, Social Sciences, Management Sciences and Computer & Information Technology at the campus.

Meanwhile, the governor, who is also chancellor of the university, presided over a meeting of the university’s Senate. The senate approved budgetary estimates for 2016-17 and the actual budget for 2015-16.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor of the University Dr Jehan Bakht presented the annual report highlighting achievements of the university.  The university announced one-month salary as bonus for the staff members.
