KARACHI: A national-level air gun championship is being held later this month for the first time, while a national shotgun championship is also planned in December.

Federal Rifle Association (FRA) is organising National Air Gun Championship at Gun Club in Islamabad from November 16-17.

“This is being organised by FRA and this is happening for the first time,” said National Rifle Association of Pakistan (NRAP) secretary. “We are extending opportunities to our players and this inaugural championship is part of it,” he said.

Javed Lodhi told ‘The News’ that 50 to 60 players from across the country would participate in it. “Also, a national shotgun championship is to be held in December in Karachi,” said Javed.

He added that this would be the second edition of the event, organised by Sindh Rifle Association (SRA).

The first edition was held in Jhelum last year by Army.

NRAP secretary added that their aim was to provide maximum competitions to athletes in the country. “Two athletes are participating in 6th Asian Shotgun Championship in the UAE,” said Javed.

He added that Khurrum Inam and Usman Chand had their matches on November 8 and 9. “We are also sending six athletes to 9th Asian Championship for 10m Rifle/Pistol,” said Javed.

He added that the event was scheduled from December 3-9 in Tehran. “We are sending both youth and junior players in this event,” said Javed.
